The problem with malocclusion
Take a look at your teeth, are they crowded or crooked? Teeth that are crowded or too close together are called malocclusion. Warning signs include teeth that look like they are sitting sideways or teeth that are overlapping,
Teeth that are crowded or too close together may make it difficult for you or even a dental professional to properly clean and maintain them. Teeth that are hard to reach or get between rarely get as clean as they should be, and can result in bacteria and serious dental decay.
Frequent or persistent bad breath, even after brushing your teeth and flossing may be a sign that bacteria is being trapped due to overcrowding.
Teeth that are too far apart may also cause problems
Check to see if your teeth seem too far apart; crowding isn’t the only situation that can cause problems. If you have missing teeth, proportionally small teeth, or large gaps between your teeth, the next step is to examine your bite. When you bite down, your teeth should fit together just right. If there is a large space between your upper and lower teeth (overbite) that cause be a cause of a couple different complications.
Symptoms of a misaligned bite vary, but can include pain and tenderness in the jaw, pain in or around the ear, facial discomfort, difficulty fully opening the mouth, and pain while chewing.
