What are Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth or third molars, are located at the very back of your mouth and thought to have helped human ancestors grind plants. Over time, the human diet changed, a smaller jaw evolved, but third molars still develop.
Most adults have four wisdom teeth that erupt by the age of 21. The name “wisdom” teeth evolved from the fact that they come through at a more mature age. If they come through correctly, these teeth can help you chew, but they are not necessary. Often times, they do more harm than good, affecting other teeth and causing issues like overcrowding or impaction.
